started tirzepatide in december, 5mg, now at 10mg. i’m 42, had niall at 41, 8 months pp. starting weight was 187, now 165. which sounds like a win and i know it is. but here’s the thing nobody prepared me for. my belly looks almost identical to week 6 postpartum. the scale moved 22 lbs. the soft lower abdomen situation did not get the memo. i’ve been reading posts like the guy who lost 55 lbs and still has the belly fat and i feel weirdly seen? but also… is there something specific happening at 42 postpartum that’s different from the typical tirz experience? because i suspect yes. here’s my working hypothesis: pp hormones, specifically the prolactin and estrogen fluctuation, already shifted where my body wants to store fat. and tirz is doing its job overall but it’s not touching the stuff that got deposited in the weirdest places during pregnancy. the fat on my upper arms is gone. the belly and the weird hip shelf are not. my OB mentioned visceral vs subcutaneous fat and how visceral tends to respond to GLP-1s faster. which means what i’m losing first might be the internal stuff, not the pinchable stuff. which is metabolically correct but visually disorienting. niall is asleep in the next room and i’m just sitting here at 11pm thinking: is the scale even the right unit of measurement for this? i genuinely don’t know. curious if anyone else postpartum or 40+ has clocked the same pattern where the number moves but the shape lags behind by what feels like a full season.
