Word-finding gaps vs brain fog, the actual difference

so people always ask me if the word-finding thing is the same as brain fog, and no, it’s not. brain fog is what happens when you’re exhausted - your brain feels slow, everything takes longer, but the words are still there if you wait. sleep helps. the word-finding thing is different.

you’re mid-sentence, you know exactly what you want to say, and the word just isn’t there. it’s fast. it’s not sluggish or slow. and sleep doesn’t fix it bc that’s not what’s happening.

i’ve been tracking them separately for a few months. brain fog goes under fatigue. word-finding gets its own note so i can show my neuro the pattern. without splitting them, everything blurs together and i can’t tell him what’s actually going on.

the scary part is one shows up on imaging and scales. lesion load, EDSS, whatever. the other doesn’t. i can describe it perfectly and there’s still no measurement.

no MRI that proves it. no number. that’s what gets to me more than any relapse - something clearly happening but leaving zero trace. anyone else tracking these separately, or is this overthinking it.

fwiw.
