Wife back at work vs the 5mo sleep regression

My wife had to take a client call from her car in the driveway yesterday. That’s about where we are right now. She went back to her job three weeks ago. It’s a hybrid schedule, so she’s home some days and in the office others.

Right on cue, our 5-month-old son has decided that napping is optional unless someone is actively holding him. His night sleep has also gone completely off the rails. The hard part, for me anyway, is that you can’t isolate the variables. Is he fussy because he misses her and has separation anxiety?

Is it just the classic five-month sleep regression that would have happened anyway? Or is he picking up on her stress about being back in work mode? It’s all happening at once, so it’s a completely confounded experiment. She started using the tracker I use, CareClinic, to log his feeds and sleep times, just hoping a pattern would emerge.

But the data is all noise. There’s no clean signal. It just confirms he’s awake and angry at 2am, which we already knew. It feels like we’re just guessing, trying to solve three different problems at the same time.
