What counts as a good day anyway

i had a good day yesterday. by that i mean my pain was sitting at a 4 or 5 instead of my usual 6-7, my brain fog was manageable enough to see clients at work, and i didn’t flare afterward. so i felt… fine.

normal adult fine. my mom called to check in and i said “yeah, had a pretty good day actually” and she got SO EXCITED. like, are you getting better? should we tell the family?

i had to explain that good doesn’t mean i’m recovering. it means my fibromyalgia had a decent day. a 4/10 is still pain. i’m still tired underneath.

i just have a slightly wider window to work with. here’s what i’ve never figured out: how do you explain that to people? my good days look like most people’s bad days. and the people closest to me keep thinking each good day is a sign it’s ending or going away.

anyone else deal with that gap between what “good day” means to you vs what it means to everyone around you? how do you actually explain it without sounding like you’re fishing for sympathy or contradicting yourself?
