i work in a compounding pharmacy and we get this question a lot. so you’ve punctured a vial, now what? storage is key.
if you’re storing it in the fridge, make sure it’s not on the door where the temp swings. and please, use BAC water, not sterile water, and definitely not the saline flush from your nurse friend. i’ve seen people store vials for months after puncture, but imo, it’s better to use it within 30 days.
the molecule itself is pretty stable, but contamination is always a risk. if you’re reconstituting with a high concentration, you might get away with a bit longer, but i’d err on the side of caution. anyone else have a different protocol for storing punctured vials?
