Took 18 months before anyone said mast cells

started with hives on my hands - went to my regular doc, got referred to allergy… allergist said “environmental sensitivity, avoid triggers, antihistamine” and sent me home. ngl fine. except the hives weren’t just on my hands and the antihistamines barely touched it. so i went back… different doctor this time - she listened to how i’d flush after eating certain things and sent me to GI… spent three months there. “could be histamine intolerance,” he said, put me on a low-histamine diet, which honestly just made me miserable and nothing changed. back to the allergist, different conversation now. third visit w/ allergy, finally someone actually looked at my full pattern - not just the rash, but the flushing, the swelling in my face sometimes, how it got worse with heat and stress, how my skin would start marking up from light scratching… she ordered tryptase testing… came back elevated. “mast cell activation syndrome,” she said, like it was obvious, like we hadn’t just spent a year and a half in circles. i was angry at first - not at her, at the whole thing. nobody connects the dots until someone’s trained to see that specific picture… anyone else deal with that kinda runaround before getting named? what finally got someone to order the right test?
