so so i’ve seen a few posts lately about semen analysis and i figured it’s time to lay out some basics. first off, if you’re trying to conceive, a semen analysis is a good idea. it’s not just about sperm count, but also motility and morphology. volume matters too, btw.
a normal range is usually considered 1.5 to 5 ml. anything less than that and you might want to look into why. concentration is another key factor - 15 million per ml is a common cutoff. but it’s not just about numbers, the morphology of your sperm is important too.
you want to see a good percentage of normal forms. now, i know some of you are probably thinking, ‘what about all the other stuff i’ve read about, like microplastics and antioxidants?’ honestly, those are factors, but they’re not the first thing to worry about. get the basics right first. and don’t even get me started on the whole ‘super soaker’ thing - that’s just not a reliable method.
if you’re serious about your semen health, get a real analysis done. it’s not that expensive and it’s worth it in the long run. fwiw, i’ve seen some pretty wild variations in semen quality even among healthy guys, so don’t freak out if your numbers aren’t perfect. just take it as a starting point and work from there.
