I’m writing on behalf of my son, who is a 27-year-old male. He was prescribed propranolol 40 mg back in January for some minor anxiety.
About a month after starting the medication, he began experiencing extreme weakness and intense fear. He’s been going to A&E almost every week, sometimes twice a week, feeling icy cold yet sweaty, with numbness in his hands, legs, and arms. This is all new for him; he wasn’t like this before the medication.
He recently reduced his dosage from 40 mg to 20 mg, and now, on day three, he feels absolutely petrified and fears he’s going to die. He’s shaking internally, feeling a tingling sensation throughout his body. He’s also extremely dizzy, lightheaded, faint, and utterly exhausted. It’s heartbreaking to see him stuck in bed, crying, convinced that this won’t end.
Every time he’s been to A&E, his ECG and blood tests come back clear, and the doctors tell him there’s nothing wrong.
I’m reaching out in hopes that you can assure us this feeling is temporary or normal, especially since he’s just reduced his dosage. He feels incredibly weak right now and is struggling to even hold his phone.
Thank you for any reassurance you can provide.
