Parkinson's and Motor Fluctuations

i’ve been dealing with parkinson’s for a while now and i’m trying to get a handle on motor fluctuations. does anyone else experience this where your meds seem to stop working after a few hours? i’ve been reading about levodopa adjustments and i’m wondering if anyone has had any success with that.

i’ve also been looking into other treatments like deep brain stimulation and physical therapy. what’s worked for you? i’m trying to find a way to manage these fluctuations and get some stability back in my life.

i’ve heard that keeping a log of your symptoms and meds can help identify patterns, has anyone tried that? any advice or insights would be really helpful

dunno.

Motor fluctuations can be tough to manage, and it sounds like you’re experiencing the “meds seem to stop working after a few hours” issue. When you say “get some stability back in my life,” I think that’s the key - identifying patterns is crucial, and I’ve found that tracking symptoms in a log can help, the dark mode on my tracking tool makes it easier to review at night.

Fresh from my own experiences with motor issues, I’m gonna push back on the idea that levodopa adjustments are the first thing to try when dealing with fluctuations. You mentioned “meds seem to stop working after a few hours” and I’ve seen that pattern too, but for me it’s been more about the timing of doses and how that interacts with my daily routine. I’ve been tracking my symptoms and meds using a daily check-in flow that’s actually pretty useful, and it’s helped me identify some patterns that might not be immediately obvious.
One thing that’s jumped out at me is how much of a difference it makes to take my meds at the same time every day, even on weekends or days off. It sounds simple, but it’s made a big difference in terms of consistency. I’m not saying that’s the solution for everyone, but it’s something to consider.
As for levodopa adjustments, I’d want to see more data on how that actually plays out in practice before making any changes. Has anyone else noticed any correlations between their dose timing and symptom fluctuations?
