Opk testing vs tracking your actual surge

i bought one of those ovulation predictor kit packs. the box said test from day 12. my cycles were 32 to 40-something days. day 12 showed negative.

day 13 showed negative. eventually i’d get a positive but by then i’d wasted half the pack testing according to someone else’s timeline. the assumption is that everyone ovulates around day 14. if your cycle is 28 days, sure.

mine weren’t. what changed was i stopped testing on “supposed to” days and started tracking until i actually saw the surge myself. different cost, different pace, but at least i was working with what was actually happening instead of what i was supposed to be. same with planning.

stopped assuming i’d ovulate on day 14. stopped scheduling things a month out. started looking at what my actual tracking said and planning from there. took some of the guessing out.

obviously you can’t plan your life week-to-week forever. but at least when i do plan, i’m not rearranging constantly. does your tracking ever match what the apps expect, or are you just constantly off from what the internet says you should be doing?

ymmv.
