my pharmacy switched my levothyroxine to a different generic brand two mos ago. they never told me. i only found out bc my tsh came back elevated at my last labs - first time in two years it’s been off. my endocrinologist was confused bc i’ve been stable on 50mcg.
so we looked at the bottle and sure enough, different manufacturer. apparently this happens all the time. the bioavailability is supposed to be within 5%, so it shouldn’t matter, but here i am with a tsh of 4.2 when it’s usually around 2.1. my free t3 isn’t terrible but it’s lower than my baseline.
no brain fog yet, but i’m cold all the time now, which is new. my pharmacy said they’re just following insurance, and i can ask them to order my original brand next time, but i have to call before they fill it. which is just annoying when you’ve been taking the same thing for five years and thought it was handled. anyone else had their pharmacy switch your brand without asking?
