My First Month Experience with GLP-1 Medication (Ozempic) - Detailed Journey

I wanted to share my detailed experience with Ozempic (GLP-1 medication) after completing my first month of treatment. I hope this helps others who are considering or just starting their journey.

Background:

  • Starting weight: 245 lbs
  • Height: 5’8"
  • Main issues: Type 2 diabetes, weight management
  • Previous medications: Metformin

Week 1 (0.25mg dose):
The first injection was nerve-wracking but surprisingly easy with the pen. Initial side effects were mild:

  • Slight nausea, mainly 2-3 hours after meals
  • Reduced appetite starting day 2
  • Some fatigue in the afternoons
  • Lost 3 lbs, mostly water weight

Week 2 (0.25mg dose):

  • Nausea improved significantly
  • Started noticing major appetite changes
  • Food tastes slightly different
  • Much easier to stop eating when full
  • Down another 2 lbs
  • Blood sugar readings more stable

Week 3-4 (0.5mg dose):

  • Increased to 0.5mg as prescribed
  • Initial increase in nausea for 2 days
  • Developed better eating habits naturally
  • No desire for late-night snacking
  • Lost 4 more lbs
  • Energy levels improving

Side Effects Management:

  1. Staying hydrated is crucial
  2. Eating smaller portions helps prevent nausea
  3. Taking medication same time weekly
  4. Light exercise helps with fatigue
  5. Ginger tea for occasional nausea

Positive Changes:

  • Total weight loss: 9 lbs
  • Blood sugar significantly improved
  • Better portion control
  • Reduced cravings
  • More energy overall
  • Better sleep quality

Challenges:

  • Initial nausea adjustment
  • Learning new eating patterns
  • Remembering weekly injection timing
  • Cost (thankfully covered by insurance)

Tips for Others:

  1. Start slow with portions
  2. Keep hydrated (at least 8 glasses daily)
  3. Listen to your body’s fullness signals
  4. Track your symptoms and progress
  5. Stay in contact with your healthcare provider

Next Steps:

  • Continuing 0.5mg dose for another month
  • Working with nutritionist on meal planning
  • Regular check-ins with doctor
  • Setting realistic goals

Overall, despite some initial challenges, I’m very pleased with my progress. The side effects have been manageable, and the benefits are already showing. I’ll update as my journey continues.
