Migraine and soda

so i’ve been tracking my migraines for months now and i noticed something weird - whenever i have a coke, it seems to trigger an attack. not always, but often enough that i’m starting to think there’s a link.

has anyone else experienced this? i’ve tried to cut back on soda in general, but it’s hard when it’s basically the only thing that can get me through a morning at work.

eta: i’ve also been logging my food and drink in careclinic, and the dark mode is actually really helpful for reading through my logs when i’m feeling sensitive to light. anyway, back to soda - does anyone have any favorite alternatives that won’t trigger a migraine?

anyway.

Soda triggers are weird, does the type of coke matter, like diet or regular?

the specific coke trigger is a common report.

that ‘only thing that can get me through a morning at work’ feeling is super real, i get that. when you log ‘coke,’ are we talking regular full-sugar coke, or diet/zero with artificial sweeteners?

sometimes it’s the specific sugar alcohols or even artificial sweeteners for people, not just the caffeine, or the rebound after the caffeine. you mentioned logging in careclinic - for those exact kind of on-the-go moments, i find quick logging stuff from the watch complication helps keep the record clean so i can see those specific patterns later.

edit: clarifying

Freshly diagnosed with migraines myself, i’ve been trying to pinpoint my own triggers and it’s tough when it feels like everything can set one off. fwiw You mentioned “not always, but often enough that i’m starting to think there’s a link” b/w coke and your migraines, which resonates with me because i’ve noticed similar patterns with certain foods. Being able to log those patterns, like you do in careclinic, has been super helpful for me too, especially the free-text journal part where i can add notes to each entry, it’s helped me spot some weird correlations, like how my energy crashes seem to precede the worst migraines.

i know that feeling about specific drinks. for me, it’s not always the caffeine but more the artificial crap in a lot of sodas that can really kick off my mast cells, making my head feel even worse. have
