IUI protocol vs my actual surge timing

the clinic’s plan: day 11 ultrasound, day 13-14 trigger, IUI at 36 hours. standard protocol. my cycles: 32-40 days. LH surge on day 17, 19, sometimes nothing for weeks.

i had 8 months of tracking data showing the pattern. when i mentioned the timing seemed off, they said the ultrasound looked normal and the protocol works for most people. gave me the hCG trigger on schedule, not based on when i actually surged. tested that evening.

my surge was nowhere near peak. i knew the timing was wrong. the IUI didn’t work. what gets me: they had both pieces of data - the ultrasound and my cycle history.

they knew i wasn’t a standard 28-day cycle. but the protocol doesn’t flex for that. i’m not blaming the clinic. this works for people with regular cycles.

but if your cycles are irregular, standard IUI timing can miss your window entirely, even with your own data sitting right there. did anyone else with longer cycles have the clinic actually adjust timing based on YOUR surge pattern? or does everyone follow the same schedule?
