Is my old c-section scar supposed to ache this much?

hey everyone, back after a bit. rosa’s 13 months now and honestly, i’ve been thinking about my c-section scar a lot lately. i had a pretty rough recovery the first time around, lots of pulling and achey pain that just wouldn’t quit for months. i figured second time around would be easier, maybe less trauma, whatever.

but i’m only maybe 15 weeks into this pregnancy and it’s already acting up. not like, sharp pain, but this deep, dull throb that gets worse when i walk too fast or bend over to pick something up. it feels almost like an old bruise that never fully healed, but inside. i remember a study saying that scar tissue can be less elastic, but this feels more than just stiffness.

i’ve been logging my symptoms in careclinic, mostly just to have something to show the OB, because my brain is total mush these days. has anyone else experienced this? like, the scar tissue itself hurting this early in a subsequent pregnancy? is it just stretching, or is there something else going on with that old scar tissue?

i’m kind of worried about how it’s going to handle the next 25 weeks. does it mean anything about a future c-section, or is it just a weird quirk of my body?

the ‘old bruise’ description is useful bc it helps distinguish general scar stiffness from potential nerve entrapment or fascial adhesions. your intuition about less elastic scar tissue is correct, but the collagen remodeling process for a c-section incision can easily take 18-24 months to fully mature, so a new pregnancy adding tensile stress at 13 months
