I’m a 42-year-old male and was diagnosed with a left testicle hydrocele a few months ago. My doctor said surgery isn’t necessary, but I could consider it if I want to. After looking around online, this website seems to be the only place where people are discussing the topic, but from what I’ve read, it doesn’t sound like the surgery results are great. It seems that for most people, the testicle with the hydrocele ends up being just as big—or sometimes even bigger—than before surgery. Additionally, there are reports that the testicle doesn’t hang normally afterward and develops hard spots due to the way it’s stitched. Does anyone have a different perspective on this?
I’ve considered that maybe the people who have had good experiences with the surgery are less likely to post, and those who didn’t are more vocal. So, I’d really like to hear from anyone who had a successful outcome, especially those who had the surgery at least a year ago. Are there any positive success stories out there?
Honestly, this whole situation has been incredibly stressful for me. It’s something I think about constantly, to the point that it’s hard to focus on anything else. I just want it gone! I’m debating whether or not to go for surgery, but I’m really worried about potentially ending up worse off, based on what I’ve read here. I haven’t seen a single before-and-after picture, which makes it even harder to make a decision. I wish there was more information available.
For a while, I even considered trying to compress the hydrocele to speed up fluid reabsorption and make it go away on its own. I found a device called the Bull Bag from Perfect Fit (it’s a sex toy, but it wraps around the scrotum), and I tried it for a day. Unfortunately, it was uncomfortable and the hydrocele kept slipping out. I’m now thinking of trying something like cloth underwear to apply more consistent pressure.
At this point, my left hydrocele is about twice the size of the right one, and I really want to get it back to normal.
I’d appreciate any comments, feedback, or advice from others who have been through this.
