Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a bit of our journey as a same-sex couple navigating IVF and PCOS. My wife and I always dreamed of starting a family, but things got a bit complicated when we found out I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS can mess with ovulation — sometimes it’s irregular, and sometimes it doesn’t happen at all — making it harder to conceive naturally. It was overwhelming at first, but we knew IVF could be a way forward for us.
The IVF process wasn’t easy — there were fertility medications to stimulate my ovaries, constant monitoring to prevent ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and those nerve-wracking embryo transfers. We also learned about options like intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to help with fertilization. It felt like a rollercoaster, but having my wife by my side kept me going. There were definitely emotional highs and lows, but we kept reminding ourselves why we started this journey in the first place.
If you’re also navigating IVF with PCOS — especially as part of a same-sex couple — just know you’re not alone. There are so many factors to consider, from managing insulin resistance to handling the emotional toll of unsuccessful cycles. It helps to have a strong support system and to lean on others who truly get it.
