started getting asked at work why i go to so many doctor appointments. tried the short version: pcos, hormone stuff, cycle tracking. got the look. the “but you look healthy?” look.
yeah, no shit. my ovaries don’t send notifications. my insulin resistance doesn’t show up in a mirror. the hard part isn’t the pcos itself.
it’s that everything’s internal. i can pull up my labs, talk about LH surge timing, explain why i need both an endocrinologist and a gynecologist, and people still think i’m overreacting. one coworker asked if i “just need to exercise more.” the concern wrapped in condescension. i’ve started keeping lab screenshots on my phone.
not to prove anything, i don’t owe anyone proof, but because words apparently aren’t enough. someone gets a migraine for a day and suddenly everyone’s sympathetic. but you deal with anovulation for years and you’re dramatic? how do you actually handle this.
do you just stop explaining.
