H1 blockers: which onset speed actually matters for reactions

i’ve been comparing different H1 blockers for my flares and the onset time is way more important than most docs mention. when i get dermographism or flushing, how fast the H1 kicks in decides if i can watch the reaction stop or just… sit there watching it happen anyway. i usually use cetirizine but switched to something faster-acting last month.

the difference is obvious. w/ the faster H1, i can actually see the flushing retreat. w/ cetirizine it’s more like waiting in limbo while the histamine slowly loses interest. the thing is, onset speed matters when your reaction is visible.

if you’re already red and itchy, a medication that works in 2 hours feels useless. one that hits in 20 minutes feels like actual relief. nobody talks about this trade-off. faster onset usually means shorter duration.

so are you picking based on how bad the reaction is, or just picking one and sticking with it? how do you choose?
