Experiencing Insomnia with Zoloft: Does Switching to Nighttime Dosing Help?

My father started taking Zoloft three weeks ago, initially taking it at night, which kept him awake, so he switched to mornings. He’s been on 50 mg daily. Now he’s considering switching back to taking it at night, as he usually handles nighttime medications better. Has anyone experienced insomnia when starting Zoloft but found that switching to nighttime dosing helped improve their sleep?

I’m on day 17 of taking the medication, and I’ve been taking it at night around 9 PM since I started. During the first week, I’d fall asleep fine but would wake up around 1 AM and struggle to get back to sleep for hours. Now, I sleep from 11 PM to 6 AM without interruptions, or if I do wake up, I’m able to fall back asleep quickly. I’ve found that taking the medication at night helps me sleep through most of the side effects. I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Agnes. Thanks for your response! It’s encouraging to hear that taking it at night helped you. I’ll definitely share this with my father and see if he wants to give it another try. It’s reassuring to know others have found relief by adjusting their dosage timing!
