Hey, I wanted to reach out and get some thoughts or reassurance about a few things my uncle has been dealing with. He’s 29 years old, of average build, doesn’t smoke or chew, but does drink alcohol.
He’s been really worried that he might have esophageal cancer. The reason he’s concerned is because back in December, he had an episode where he tried to swallow a bite of food, and it got stuck in the back of his throat. He tried to wash it down with water, but the water just pooled on top of the food and wouldn’t let it go down. Eventually, he had to throw up the food. Since then, he’s had a few more similar episodes, although not as severe as the first time—he didn’t end up vomiting, but it still felt strange.
Since then, he hasn’t had any issues with swallowing food, but he’s still worried it might happen again. On top of that, he just got over a cold that came with a cough, but the cough hasn’t completely gone away yet. It’s not constant, but it’s still lingering. He also has this slight pain between his shoulder blades in his back. He’s not sure if it’s related to potential cancer or if it’s just from bad posture.
He’s feeling really scared and unsure about what to think. He’s scheduled for an upper endoscopy next Monday, but he’s nervous and could really use some reassurance. Any advice or thoughts would really help right now.
