Does progesterone matter if you're anovulatory anyway

been tracking everything bc cycles are 32-51 days. my endocrinologist finally checked my progesterone on “day 21” and it came back 0.8. confirms I’m not ovulating that cycle, which, fine, but I already knew that from the complete absence of LH surges.

so what did the lab actually tell me that I didn’t already figure out? nothing. and now what?

I still have anovulation, still irregular cycles, still trying to figure out if IUI even makes sense. wondering if anyone else with anovulation bothers with progesterone checks, or if it’s just checkboxes for the clinic. like does a low number actually change your strategy or is it just confirmation of bad news?

same here with irregular cycles, 32 days to 42, and my doc just checked progesterone too, came back 1.2, so what’s the threshold for anovulation anyway, you said “confirmation of bad news” and i’m kinda there too, trying to figure out if it’s worth tracking or just waiting for my annual

Fresh from my own struggles with irregular cycles, I can see why you’d question the value of progesterone checks when you’re already aware of anovulation. You said “so what did the lab actually tell me that I didn’t already figure out” and that really resonates with me, I had a similar experience with my doc checking progesterone levels. tbh in my previous post, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the role of progesterone in perimenopause, but it seems to me that the real challenge is figuring out how to use that information to inform our next steps.
