So I just started metformin on Monday and honestly I’m already second-guessing whether I can stick with it. My endocrinologist was very “you might feel a little nauseous, it passes in a few days” and here I am on day four barely getting through work. The nausea kicked in within 2 hours of the first dose and it’s not letting up, even now. The thing that’s getting to me most is I can’t track what’s actually helping versus what’s just the medication making everything angry.
I had my LH surge window hit right on day two, and now I can’t tell if the cramping is from ovulation or from metformin wrecking my stomach. I’ve tried the whole ginger-with-food routine, smaller meals, nothing’s really touching it. Only thing that helps is laying flat but, you know, I work as a social worker so that’s not really an option at my desk. I get that the insulin resistance is real and that metformin should help my cycles regulate.
I’m just wondering if the first couple of weeks are always this rough or if I’m just having a particularly bad time with it. How long did the GI stuff last for you if you’ve done metformin?
