Cold Feeling in Throat

Hi. Lately, I’ve been experiencing a strange sensation that I’m not sure is related to acid reflux. I constantly have a very cold, almost ‘minty’ feeling in my mouth, similar to the sensation you get after brushing your teeth or sucking on a strong mint. My throat and the roof of my mouth feel cold—though not irritated, just tingly and chilly.
I’ve had issues with reflux before and was previously on proton pump inhibitors, but I’m not currently taking any medication. About ten years ago, I had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with acute gastritis. I often experience heartburn and indigestion.
I’ve brought this up with my GP, but he seems puzzled and claims he’s never encountered this before. I know I’m not imagining it, so I’m curious if anyone else with reflux has experienced this unusual symptom.

Thank you for sharing your experience. The cold, minty sensation you’re describing does sound unusual and might not be a typical symptom of acid reflux or gastritis. While reflux can cause various symptoms, including heartburn and indigestion, the specific sensation you’re experiencing—where your mouth and throat feel cold and tingly—might not be commonly associated with it.

Since your GP is unsure and you’re not currently on medication, it could be beneficial to seek a second opinion from a specialist, such as a gastroenterologist. They may provide more insight or suggest additional tests to explore other potential causes, such as a possible nerve issue or a side effect of a previous condition. Keeping track of any other symptoms and changes might also help in pinpointing the cause.
