My dad had been on Escitalopram for 5 years when he developed intermittent nausea. After switching to Sertraline, he developed a very sore stomach and the nausea became constant and severe. A gastroscopy diagnosed stomach-wide, non-erosive gastritis (H.Pylori-negative). This has not improved in 6 weeks of taking a PPI and an H2 blocker but he has been continuing to take Sertraline.
We cannot find any articles about an increased risk of Gastritis from Sertraline (although there is some link with gastric bleeding), but it is listed as a rare side effect. Escitalopram has it listed as an uncommon side effect.
I wondered if anyone had found a correlation between the taking of an SSRI and gastritis?
