Can Amoxicillin actually cause a UTI?

So, here’s something I stumbled on recently — can amoxicillin actually cause a UTI? At first, it sounded wild since it’s literally an antibiotic used to treat UTIs. But after digging a little deeper, it turns out the situation is a bit more complicated.

Amoxicillin works by killing off bacteria, but sometimes antibiotics can also mess with the balance of good bacteria in your body — including the ones that help protect your urinary tract. When that balance gets thrown off, it could create an opening for harmful bacteria to sneak in and cause a UTI. It’s not super common, but it’s a possibility, especially if you’re on a longer course or a higher dose.

That got me thinking — if you’ve ever been on amoxicillin (or any antibiotic) and noticed UTI symptoms creeping in, what did you do? Did your doctor switch you to something like nitrofurantoin or ciprofloxacin, or did they suggest adding probiotics or other ways to restore balance?

I’m trying to get a better handle on this, so I’d love to hear your experiences. What helped you prevent or treat a UTI while taking antibiotics?
