6 weeks in: when the pattern finally mattered

started keeping notes abt three months ago, just to have something to show my allergist instead of “i feel worse sometimes.” thought it’d be straightforward - eat something, reaction happens. but it wasn’t. first month was useless. i was only noting immediate reactions.

didn’t record timing, didn’t mark exactly what i ate. every time i’d think i had a trigger figured out, i’d eat it again two wks later and feel fine. then around week six i went back and looked at the actual times. not when i ate, but when the reaction started.

day-old leftovers felt fine at lunch but hit me at dinner. aged cheese at lunch meant flushing and dermographism by late afternoon. it wasn’t the food - it was the timing. that’s when i could actually point at something and say “this is what happened.” not guessing, not catastrophizing, just the pattern.

took way longer than i expected to realize what tracking’s actually for. not proving anything to your doc. just recognizing the actual pattern so you stop blaming yourself for timing you can’t control. anyone else find that moment when logging finally clicked?

or does it feel pointless for a while before something makes sense?

ymmv.
