32 weeks pregnant and my husband still forgets the baby class signup

i’m 32 weeks now and everything feels like it’s happening so fast, and also not fast enough. we were supposed to sign up for the hospital’s newborn care class like, a month ago. my husband said he’d handle it because my brain is already mush from the nausea and the general panic. so yesterday, i asked him if he’d remembered to do it and he just looked at me, blankly.

‘oh, uh, i forgot.’ just like that. this is the same man who can remember every single stat from every single baseball game ever played, but the signup for the thing that will literally teach us how to keep our child alive? completely gone. it’s not even about the class itself anymore, which is probably fine.

it’s that feeling again, that complete lack of control, the ground shifting under my feet. when things are this unpredictable, you need the logistics to be solid, right? you need to be able to trust that the small, manageable tasks will actually get done. it’s not about him being a bad guy, it’s just… another thing i can’t predict.

another thing that makes me feel completely on my own. anyone else’s partner just… have a completely different operating system for ‘important but not urgent’ tasks?

ugh that feeling, the ground shifting like that. it reminds me of when i was trying to get my OB to take my pp fatigue seriously, and she kept saying “oh, you’re just a new mom!” like it was a given.

it’s not about him forgetting, it’s about the sheer mental load of it all when you’re the one counting the mental load. i swear, having rosa has made me realize how much I was already doing just to keep my own shit together before.

maybe ask him to put it in his calendar right then and there, like, right before his next sports stat recall? ymmv obviously.
