10 wks on metformin, glucose down but acne worse

so i’m 10 weeks into metformin for my pcos and insulin resistance. my fasting glucose has gone from 118 to 108, which is a win, but my acne has actually gotten worse. i’m talking more breakouts, not just the usual hormonal stuff. i’ve been tracking my symptoms and i’m starting to think that metformin might not be the best for my skin.

has anyone else experienced this? i’ve been reading about inositol as an alternative, but i’m not sure if it’s worth the switch. my doc says it’s all about the glucose control, but i’m not convinced that’s the whole story. i’ve also been noticing some hair shedding, which is frustrating bc i thought the metformin would help with that too.

anyone have any thoughts on this? i’m trying to figure out what’s working and what’s not, and it’s hard when the lab numbers say one thing but my body says another. fwiw, i’ve been tracking my cycles and ovulation, and that’s been a whole other journey. maybe i’ll post about that soon.

Acne getting worse on metformin is pretty common, “my acne has actually gotten worse” is what caught my eye. I’ve seen it happen to a few people I know with pcos, and it’s frustrating when the meds don’t seem to be helping w/ the hormonal symptoms.
