Years of irregular before someone checked insulin

spent like seven years with “you have irregular cycles” in my chart. showed up, they’d note it, say “try again next year,” and nothing else. nobody looked at what the irregularity was doing. got a new endocrinologist who asked about insulin.

like, actual fasting glucose + insulin response testing. not just “your cycles are irregular” but “what’s causing the irregular cycles.” full hormone panel too: androgens, lh, fsh. that’s when the pattern showed. the diagnosis was: consistent anovulation + high androgens + insulin resistance.

not random. metabolic. read something on diagnostic delay in pcos recently and it all made sense. “irregular cycles” doesn’t tell you anything without the metabolic context.

you need the markers lined up. some doctors check one thing and stop. the pattern is what matters. so many people tell me they got “just irregular” for years before someone actually looked at the full picture.

curious how long yours sat before anyone asked about the metabolic side?

seven years is a long time to wait for someone to look beyond “irregular cycles” “what’s causing the irregular cycles” is what matters, not just noting it and moving on, i’ve been tracking my own cycle irregularity for a few months now and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes to actually see the numbers and patterns, someone posted about this in the pcos thread and it got me thinking about my own metabolic stuff
