So my neurologist finally asked if I track my cycle against migraine days. I wasn’t really, just knew I felt worse sometimes. Started actually logging it in January and yeah. Three days before my period starts - like clockwork - I get a migraine.
Full aura, usually lasts 18-24 hours, photophobia is brutal, and I’m essentially out of commission. I’m on Aimovig, which has helped with overall frequency, brought me down from like 12 migraine days a month to maybe 6-7. But these hormonal ones feel completely different. They don’t respond as well to my abortive (Nurtec usually knocks it out, but on these days it’s like fighting uphill).
My neurologist mentioned maybe adjusting when I take my abortive during that window, or potentially adding something preventive just for those three days. Here’s what I’m actually wondering though: does knowing exactly when it’s coming help you prepare better, or does it just become this countdown to something you can’t stop? Like, am I getting ahead of it or just dreading it earlier? Anyone else track this closely?
Did finding the pattern actually change anything for you?
dunno.
