started cromolyn about six weeks ago. my allergist suggested it as something to try on days when i knew i’d be eating aged or fermented foods - take it before meals, hopefully block the reactions. seemed reasonable. first few weeks i wasn’t seeing much difference.
still getting flushing and hives after cheese or day-two leftovers. wondered if it just wasn’t strong enough for me, or if mcas was too active to prevent anything. then at my next appointment i mentioned it wasn’t helping. she asked when i was dosing it.
turned out i’d been taking it right as i sat down to eat. she explained cromolyn needs about 15-20 minutes to coat the mast cells before food hits. so i started taking it 20 minutes before eating. completely different.
hives basically stopped. aged cheese is back on the menu now, which honestly feels huge after a year of avoiding it. still get some flushing occasionally but it’s manageable. timing really does change everything.
anyone else find that small protocol tweaks made the actual difference?
