Mood swings on HRT: conflicting advice before starting

started HRT about 8 weeks ago mostly to get the hot flashes under control. the night sweats were destroying my sleep… my endocrinologist said “some mood changes are normal but they’ll settle down.” my gynecologist said “that’s rare, you’ll be fine.” cool, so which one? got on estradiol (patch) plus progesterone and the hot flashes did back off by week 3, which was huge.

but around week 5 i noticed my mood shifting hard. i’m not usually someone who gets angry fast. now i’m snapping at my students over stuff i would’ve ignored a month ago. idk if it’s the progesterone dose or if my body is still adjusting or if i need to change the formulation.

the conflicting advice before i started is messing with me now. one doctor said “give it 3 months for mood to stabilize” and the other said mood swings aren’t a real side effect… so i don’t know if i should adjust or just wait it out. lab work looks fine (TSH stable on levo)… but this feels different from the perimenopause rage i dealt with before. did anyone else get told conflicting things abt HRT side effects before starting, then actually experience something different than what you were promised?
