spent the better part of last year getting shuffled around. first the allergist said my skin stuff was fine, just some generic urticaria, here take an h1 blocker. then the gi doc focused on stomach issues i didn’t even think were the main problem. then dermatology said it’s not really a dermatology issue.
nobody was connecting anything. flushing one day, some hives another, stomach cramping, all separate problems to three separate doctors. it wasn’t till i finally got sent to an immunologist that someone actually asked the right questions. turned out i’d been having mast cell flares the whole time, just getting carved up into pieces by specialists who weren’t talking to each other.
took me eight months and a lot of frustration to get to that diagnosis. i was starting to think i was making it up by month five or six, you know? keeps you feeling invisible when three doctors keep saying ‘looks fine to me.’ how long did it take you before someone figured out it was your mast cells? and did you get bounced around between different specialties too, or did you luck out getting to the right doctor faster?
