Allergy tests vs tryptase testing: years before diagnosis

so for like six years my docs kept running the standard allergy panel. always perfectly normal - histamine fine, eosinophils fine, everything fine. they’d literally say ‘your labs are perfect.’ meanwhile i’m dealing with chronic hives, flushing every time i get stressed, dermographism so bad i scratch myself. then i finally saw an immunologist instead of just an allergist.

first thing she asked was ‘when was your tryptase?’ came back 4.8. technically in range. but she didn’t just read the number - she asked what was happening that week. i’d been flushing constantly.

that’s when it clicked. the standard panel was never built to catch this. my mast cells were going crazy the whole time. the tests just weren’t looking for it.

anyone else get years of ‘you’re fine’ before someone checked the actual thing?
